2024 Chevrolet Suburban
by Ric Green

In its twelfth generation of the iconic Chevrolet SUV nameplate, the 2024 Chevy Suburban is expected to introduce only a single change from the 2023 model year. The removal of Autumn Metallic from the available paint colors list does not strike me as a big deal.

With room for up to nine passengers, the 2023 and ‘24 edition was honored by U.S News and World Report in its Best Cars for Families as one of the Best Large SUV’s three years in a row.

The reason for the adulations, the Chevy Suburban is an excellent full-size SUV. The three-row Suburban has a cavernous interior with seating for up to nine occupants; however, the nine-seat configuration is not as comfortable as the eight-seat arrangement.

It boasts more cargo space than any other SUV. The cabin is upscale and well-trimmed, and it is offered with a wealth of intuitive tech and driver-assistance features, including GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system. The Suburban also rides and manages nicely on the open road, and it is available with a range of potent gas and diesel engines.

The Suburban is an adept passenger-hauler and cargo carrier, and it’s a pretty good value considering its many standard features and refined driving dynamics.

GM is increasing prices by $2,000 for all trim levels of the 2024 Chevy Suburban compared to the 2023 model. On top of this, the $1,995 destination freight charge is $100 higher than last year’s $1,895 DFC. Combined, the two price changes add $2,100 to all 2024 Suburban trims.

The 2024 Suburban is offered in three seating configurations, seating either nine, eight, or seven passengers. It is the availability of these configurations that has made the Suburban so popular.

The nine-passenger configuration (3-3-3) is only available on the fleet/commercial and LS trims. This setup features a front 40/20/40 split bench seat in the front row (providing seating for three), along with a bench seat in the second row (seating three) and a bench seat in the third row (also seating three).

Its eight-passenger configuration (2-3-3) is available on most trims. This setup features front bucket seats (providing seating for two), along with a bench seat in the second row (seating three) and a bench seat in the third row (also seating three).

Lastly, the seven-passenger configuration (2-2-3) is my favorite and available on most trims. It features front bucket seats (providing seating for two), along with captain’s chairs in the second row (seating two) and a bench seat in the third row (seating three).

Space and versatility are the prime points of the 2024 Suburban. The premium cabin features comfortable seating for up to nine and still allows plenty of rear storage for your gear.

While parking can be challenging due to its size, it is nimble on the highway and comfortable around town.

Standard driver assistance features include: Rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency brakng, lane-departure warning with lanekeep assist, automatic high-
beam headlights, and rear-seat alert that reminds you to check the back seats for kids or pets before you exit the vehicle.

Other available options are blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rearview mirror with an integrated camera display, surround-view parking camera system, heads-up display that shows pertinent driving and navigation information directly on the windshield, adaptive cruise control, safety alert seat that vibrates to warn the driver of potential hazards and a semi-autonomous highway driving mode with automated steering, acceleration and braking they call Super Cruise.

For the big family or the business savvy individual that needs to move clients or merchandise efficiently and safely, the 2024 should be high on your list.
