Habitat Broward Receives $10,000 State Farm Grant To Purchase Hurricane Roof Straps And Safety Building Materials

Habitat for Humanity of Broward was recently granted a $10,000 grant from State Farm. The grant funds will be used to purchase building safety materials, such as hurricane roof straps, to help fortify homes against storms and hurricanes. The grant benefits hard-working families in need of a decent, affordable place to live in Broward County like Alfred and Lashicia Harris’ family. Lashicia, a School Board Campus Monitor and Alfred, a Lead Selector with Kehe Distribution, moved their family of six from a two-bedroom apartment to their new home in Pompano Beach. “This achievement shows our children the importance of never giving up and always pushing through,” said Lashicia Harris. “Thanks to this support, more families like mine can feel safe and secure in their own homes.” “State Farm is proud to support Habitat for Humanity of Broward efforts to build affordable, durable, resilient and physically strong homes in our community,” said Jose Soto, State Farm Corporate Responsibility Analyst. “This grant, along with State Farm associates volunteering with Habitat, reflects our commitment to helping families like Lashicia’s achieve their dream of homeownership.” “We appreciate the steadfast commitment by State Farm to support our cause in providing affordable workforce homeownership opportunities in our community,” said Nancy Robin, Habitat Broward’s CEO and Executive Director. “These families are grateful for the peace of mind a safe and secure home provides thanks to their help.” Homeownership helps parents to provide their children with the safety, security and opportunity that only a stable home can. Children of homeowners are 25 percent more likely to graduate high school and twice as likely to acquire postsecondary education. Even more, 81 percent of new homeowners feel comfortable with their children playing outside for the first time. Habitat Broward’s program combines home construction with affordable mortgage financing and robust education to put working families on the path to long-term financial security through homeownership. State Farm has been a corporate sponsor of Habitat Broward for over a decade. With a shared commitment to affordable housing, they have worked together to build a stronger, resilient community, one home and family at a time. Since making its first gift in 2011, State Farm has donated funding and hundreds of volunteer hours to make affordable housing a reality for working families in need of a decent, affordable place to call home. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Broward brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat Broward offers a “hand up” not a “hand out” to families who are unable to qualify for conventional home financing but are willing to work hard to improve their family’s lives and achieve the economic empowerment of homeownership.
